Description
A wonderfully decorative vintage porcelain teapot, handcrafted in Thailand and probably dating from the 1970s–90s.
The unusual faceted body is decorated all over with a lively cobalt-blue design of flowers, leaves and scrolling foliage against a white porcelain ground. A large stylised flower forms the principal motif to the front.
The pot has an angular upright spout, matching fitted porcelain lid and a brass swing handle attached through two porcelain lugs at the shoulder.
The original paper label reading “HANDCRAFTED IN THAILAND” survives on the underside.
Blue-and-white porcelain of this type was produced in Thailand for the Western decorative export market during the latter decades of the 20th century, drawing upon the long tradition of Asian blue-and-white ceramics. Similar Thai porcelain teapots were made in a variety of floral patterns and forms, frequently incorporating brass handles.
A particularly attractive decorative object for a kitchen shelf, dresser or mantelpiece, and lovely mixed amongst antique and vintage blue-and-white ceramics.
