Description
A wonderfully decorative vintage Japanese porcelain bowl, probably produced in Arita during the middle decades of the 20th century.
The bowl has a beautifully shaped scalloped rim, edged with a fine line of iron brown, and is generously decorated inside and out with scrolling flowers and foliage in varying shades of underglaze cobalt blue.
A circular floral medallion forms the centre of the interior, surrounded by flowering branches which sweep naturally around the sides of the bowl. The same decoration continues across the exterior, making this a particularly attractive piece from every angle.
An underglaze-blue Japanese kiln or maker’s mark appears on the base.
A lovely piece of vintage Japanese porcelain in its own right, and particularly good mixed amongst other blue-and-white ceramics on a mantel, console or dresser.
