Description
A charming little vintage blue-and-white ceramic jug, hand-painted with trailing vines, broad leaves and softly rendered bunches of grapes.
Despite its petite proportions, the jug has a wonderfully characterful form, with a rounded body, broad pouring lip and substantial deep-cobalt loop handle. Simple blue bands frame the decoration around the neck and base.
The grape-and-vine pattern is painted in varying shades of cobalt blue against a warm white ground. Dark, inky leaves contrast with paler washes and loose clusters of fruit, giving the decoration a relaxed and expressive quality.
At just 10 cm, this is a lovely small decorative piece for a mantelpiece, bookshelf or bedside table. It could hold a few short-stemmed flowers or simply be displayed alongside other collected blue-and-white ceramics.
