Victorian Blanc de Chine Style Figural Porcelain Candlestick

An exceptionally elegant late Victorian figural porcelain candlestick, modelled as a seated young woman dressed in flowing classical robes, gently embracing a tall urn-shaped candle holder.

Executed in luminous white porcelain with a soft ivory tone developed through age, the piece displays wonderful sculptural quality. The finely modelled folds of the drapery, delicately formed hands and floral wreath all reflect the influence of Classical Revival sculpture, which enjoyed enormous popularity throughout the nineteenth century.

The architectural pedestal is enriched with moulded decorative motifs, while the beaded collar surrounding the candle socket provides an understated decorative finish.

This is as much a sculpture as it is a candlestick and works beautifully styled on a mantelpiece, console table or bookshelf. It pairs particularly well with antique marble, gilt frames and traditional interiors but also provides a striking contrast within more contemporary spaces.
