A delightful and characterful piece of early 20th-century English pottery, this Devon Ware Fieldings bowl and plate set showcases the much-loved “Poppy” pattern.
Produced in Stoke-on-Trent during the 1920s–early 1930s, this piece comes from the renowned S. Fielding & Co., later known as Crown Devon—one of the most important
ceramic manufacturers of the period.
The design features a lively border of stylised poppy flowers in warm reds, yellows, and blues, set against a soft cream ground with a delicate green band. The form is equally charming, with a gently scalloped edge and elegant scroll feet elevating the bowl.
The pierced base indicates its original function as a drainer or strainer bowl, designed for practical kitchen or household use, paired with the matching underplate to catch water. Today, it makes a wonderful decorative object—ideal for display, fruit serving, or adding a touch of vintage charm to a kitchen or dresser.
